I first heard the phrase ‘chinita peligrosa’ when travelling in Cuba at the end of 2013. I was in a rush to get back to my casa particular when I had a couple of Cubanos* cat-calling me and giving me sexy eyes (yes, you know those eyes!). Not in the mood for any Cubano’s come-ons, I gave them my best fuck off look (no censorship on this ‘blog’) and went on my way. There were a few “oooohs” and one of them shouted “Chinita peligrosa!” after me and that’s how CHINITA PELIGROSA was born. I suppose I am a little dangerous, and contrary to what you may believe, ‘chinita’ has nothing to do with my appearance and everything to do with my sweet delicate nature. Yes, it’s common place for Latinos to use ‘chinita’ as a term of endearment as they love to use your characteristics as your nickname. So fatty, I will adoringly call you ‘gordita’ or ‘flaca’!
CHINITA PELIGROSA will be a chronicle of my adventures, musings and dreams as I begin a new chapter of my life in Cooktown in Far North Queensland.
